Our theme for this month’s Project 12 was “Bloom.” I knew I wanted to let nature inspire this month’s capture. Lil is absolutely intrigued with picking flowers right now and since we have these amazing azaleas blooming in our yard, I thought I had this great shot in mind of her little hand grabbing some of those beautiful blooms. And when we went outside the other evening, I did get some perfect shots of her grubby fingers and those pink azaleas, just what I had envisioned. But, when I sat down to process the images, they weren’t nearly as compelling to me as this one. I snapped this shot right after L and I came around the corner of the garage into the front yard and L happened to spot a squirrel in the distance. Well, off she went – squealing & scurrying straight for that poor terrified squirrel (who you can actually see if you look close!).
What I love about this image is that not only does it capture the movement of her little walk perfectly – arms out to the sides, tummy leading the way, hips swaying to beat the band. (It is sassy & adorable beyond compare, and even though this image is a still, it really does capture that walk!) But, even better than that, this image captures the baby girl who is blooming into a head-strong, independent little girl right before our very eyes. Bloom. That’s what this image says to me.
